CBD and Pain

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the cannabinoid of cannabis particularly in hemp. Cannabis is the genus of marijuana and hemp that has provided pain relief for a variety of medical conditions for centuries. This all-natural and non-psychoactive cannabinoid has the ability to interact with the Endocananbinoid System (the system responsible for regulating pain).

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is controlled by chemicals that our body produces called endocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids balance our most critical biological functions such as sleep, appetite, the immune system, and pain. When these functions are not at equilibrium and are at a state of stress, endocannabinoids work to balance them out. The chemical makeup of CBD mimic
endocannabinoids and effectively help to manage the body’s crisis and restore it from a state of trauma and pain.

CBD has been proven to be highly effective in treating pain and inflammation. Inflammation is a common symptom associated with a wide variety of health conditions such as arthritis, cancer,
asthma, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, diabetes, heart disease, thyroid problems, and celiac disease. Studies show that CBD stops inflammation by activating CB2 receptors (the main receptor that
affects the immune system). Inflammation is an immune response, which requires a compound that focuses on the CB2 receptor. CBD (along with THC) is the most abundant cannabis compound to activate the CB2 with no psychoactive properties. One particular study published in the Journal of Neuroinflammation found CBD to exhibit antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties when
administered to rodents. https://jneuroinflammation.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1742-2094-8-5

Apart from inflammation, CBD has been proven to be effective in managing pain in cancer patients. Studied have shown rats to have a significant reduction in cancerous tumors and found it to be
highly effective in alleviating the various cancer-associated pains such as swelling, muscle weakness that is caused by chemotherapy. In addition, CBD has been found to play a large role in controlling nausea and vomiting. https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/cam/patient/cannabis-pdq#link/_15

CBD is the all-natural and non-psychoactive alternative to reducing inflammation and alleviating pain for a multitude of health conditions. Pharmaceutical treatments such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin and ibuprofen) come with a wide range of side effects which include:

  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Constipation
  • Possible liver and kidney failure
  • Ulcers and prolonged bleeding

If you are experiencing chronic inflammation or uncontrollable pain, consider CBD, a natural alternative proven to alleviate pain with virtually no harmful side effects.
